Kia ora Mosen At Largers.
We talk about a wide range of topics on the show, some more serious than others. Occasionally, it’s fun to reminisce. As mentioned recently, this weekend I am relaunching a much-loved New Zealand institution, Small World, the kids’ programme for the whole family. I’m honoured to have been entrusted with such a treasure, and that we can bring it to a global audience through Mushroom Escape, our wonderful comedy and drama channel.
That got me thinking about how big a part radio has played in our lives. Of course, you don’t have to be blind to have a love of radio, but I think the portion of blind people crazy about radio is higher than the general population, because it’s a medium we can completely consume and appreciate. So in honour of the resurrection of Small World, I’d love to hear your radio memories. What radio stations, shows and broadcasters were special to you as a young person, and what did you used to listen to the radio with? Were you one of those kids who would call into the radio stations a lot and become known to local broadcasters? Did you get into the DX seen, listening to shortwave radio from all over the world? A bit of radio memory lane sounds like fun.
The people at Microsoft should get into politics! You know why? Because they said something very clearly and have gone back on their word! They told us that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows. Future versions would always be called Windows 10 with something on the end! But it is now certain that next week, Microsoft is going to unveil Windows 11. Ahead of that big reveal, what would you like to see, both from an accessibility perspective and in general, in Windows 11? How would you assess the capability and viability of Windows Narrator right now, and do you hope we get an expansion of its features in Windows 11?
And we’ll be talking about a subject that’s jolly frustrating for many blind people, sleep. A listener believes he has non-24 and is seeking experience and advice from those who live with it about how to do so successfully. Do you have strategies in place that mitigate the consequences of non-24? Our listener who raised this topic, and I’m sure many others, would love to hear.
As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.
If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.
Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.
