On the show this week, it’s the beginning of a new era for Living Blindfully as we begin playing contributions from WhatsApp. And wow! Since we introduced WhatsApp as a means of having your say on the show, there has been a huge increase in listener contributions. Thanks for that. It’s great to hear from many first-time contributors as well as regulars.

I begin with a salute to one of our listeners and one of the best broadcast journalists in the business, Gary O’Donoghue, who’s coverage of the attempted assassination of former president Trump was outstanding.

There are five little words that can provoke justifiable anxiety when it comes to an app we use regularly, and they are, “rewritten from the ground up”. The popular Overcast app has been rewritten. So, how’s that working out, and why was it done?

Related to this, I’ll talk about my return to the podcast app that meets my needs the best, Castro Podcasts, and why I’m feeling good about its future after the existential threats it has been facing.

There’s plenty of interest in the Ray-Ban meta smart glasses, and we will have a lot more on them in future episodes including a comparison of current wearables on the market. In the meantime, I’ll share some further impressions and answer a few questions about these attractive and comparatively affordable wearables.

For those of us who’ve been using an iPhone these last 15 years, we can sometimes forget that there are some people who are only now considering taking the plunge. At a listener’s request, I’ll discuss some resources for those just getting started with iPhone, and offer some thoughts on sensible purchasing strategies. It would also be great to hear about what iPhone apps you would put on your essentials list, apps that no blind person should be without.

We’ll return to the subject of Express VPN, as I take you through a quick demo of how to use the iOS app. A reminder, Living Blindfully has a sweet deal at present where you can get 30 days of Express VPN free while also supporting the podcast by giving us 30 days free. To take advantage of it, just rock on over to https://LivingBlindfully.com/vpn.

And we’ll talk about blind people buying cars and the challenges that can sometimes cause. Our listener who raised this has a story to tell, and oh boy, so do I!

All this, and a lot more, in Living Blindfully 292. With listeners in 113 countries, our Living Blindfully community offers a wide range of knowledge and perspectives. We welcome your contribution to the show. Here’s how to have your say.
