On the show this week, more in our community are speaking out about an outrage. Too many agencies providing services to blind people are not themselves led by blind people. We’ll talk about the widespread condemnation of the Helen Keller Centre for DeafBlind Youths and Adults appointing yet another sighted hearing Executive Director. DeafBlind people are rightly saying, “enough is enough”.

Over in Australia, there is a vacancy with their largest blindness service provider, Vision Australia. But there are persistent, credible rumours that its Board are contemplating appointing a sighted senior manager to the role, without even going to market to see if they can find a blind person. I’ll speak with the first Chair of Vision Australia, Graeme Innes, who says it’s important that the next CEO of Vision Australia be blind.

We’ll take you riding in a self-driving car this week thanks to a listener’s very nice 3D audio contribution. So, put on your best headphones or earbuds for this one.

We’ve discussed it before, but it’s a critical subject. At what point should you disclose your blindness if you’ve landed an interview, or should you disclose it at all before turning up for that interview.

There’s some chat about iOS 18, the Zoom Essential recorders, and bone conduction headphones.

All this, and a lot more, in Living Blindfully 296. With listeners in 113 countries, our Living Blindfully community offers a wide range of knowledge and perspectives. We welcome your contribution to the show. Here’s how to have your say.
