On the show this week, the rumours turned out to be true. The most important responsibility any Board has is to recruit and appoint its Chief Executive. Yet the Vision Australia Board has declined to seek any external applications for the role. Not only does this exclude a range of capable blind candidates from applying, it demonstrates a lack of adherence to responsible best governance practice. All stakeholders, from service recipients, to staff, to donors and other funders, have every right to feel deeply troubled by this egregious dereliction of the Board’s most important duty.
In this week’s episode, I’ll go through the reasons the Vision Australia Board has provided for not doing a proper job of recruiting the CEO, and explain why they are faulty and nebulous.
At Living Blindfully, we stand shoulder to shoulder, unreservedly behind all blind Australians who are taking on this issue. We will publicise any action you can take to oppose this measure, and hope that donors and other stakeholders will join with concerned blind Australians to intervene before it’s too late.
It’s been years in the creating, but the Monarch Dynamic Tactile device is almost here. At the NFB Convention in Orlando, I sat down with Greg Stilson and Jason Martin from the American Printing House for the Blind to talk about the Monarch. In particular, we learn about the Software Development Kit that is being built to make the Monarch a more open, vibrant platform.
If you use a continuous glucose monitoring system, this week we learn about an app that may help you get the information you need more easily.
In response to a Hungarian listener’s comment recently, we talk about the accessibility of recycling systems around the world.
