Kia ora Mosen At Largers.
Because of your contributions, it looks like we have another thought-provoking show coming up for you this weekend. I am very grateful that we seemed to have created a safe space where people know they are going to be heard and can discuss complex and sometimes difficult issues.
The discussion with my ex-wife Amanda on blind culture has provoked some fantastic responses, and there is still room for yours. If you’ve heard the episode, what do you think? Is there such a thing as blind culture, and would the blind community actually be better off if we embraced it and expected society to be culturally responsive?
In a few days, a giant of our audio and technology community, not to mention one of our valued Mushroom FM fun guys is going through one of the most difficult things any audio geek can imagine, a cochlea implant. Since I also have a degenerative hearing impairment, hearing aids and coping strategies for blind people who use them come up regularly. If you have had a cochlea implant and feel able to share your journey with us, I would love to hear from you. Are you glad you had the procedure? Is your quality of life better? Can you enjoy music, and how sociable are you able to be? I’m looking for your honest reflections, positive and negative.
We’ll continue to hear people’s thoughts on dating when you’re blind, both online and offline. We’ll discuss whether blind people are likely to have more success when they date other blind people, and much more. Your thoughts are very welcome.
Our feature section this week is an unashamed audio geek fest. With Clubhouse having become so popular, podcasters and other audio professionals have been desperate to put out the best audio possible. I’ll share my discoveries with you and also play you extracts from a session on the actual Clubhouse itself where we discuss how to get audio onto the platform that pulls a knock-out punch. Plus, when you do this stuff for Clubhouse, it will have benefits to audio for everything you do on your iPhone, even phone calls. Yes, some people still actually use their iPhones for that. Cute, eh?
As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.
If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.
Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.
The best way to hear Mosen At Large is when it airs live and in full. Catch it on Mushroom FM, either on the station itself or in the Mushroom FM club on Clubhouse, the Mosen At Large YouTube channel and the Mosen At Large Facebook page on Saturdays at 2 PM Eastern, that’s 6 PM in the UK. It will then be available in abridged form on the Mosen At Large podcast, available anywhere you get podcasts.
